Edusei Foundation In Collaboration With Yeguaa Foundation Donates To The Bekwai Infirmary
According to the United Nations development program on disabilities more than 500 million people in the world are disabled as a consequence of mental, physical or sensory impairment. However they are entitled to the same rights and opportunities as all other human beings. They are often segregated and debased which hamper their full participation amidst social barriers. Even more daunting than growing up as an orphan in the third world, are the obstacles faced by such orphans who are physically and mentally ill. Often neglected by society, physically and mentally challenged orphans are placed in orphanages that generally lack the proper resources and training needed to nurture and steer development within these young individuals.
On August 26th, 2015 Edusei foundation who have a track record of supporting youth development and women empowerment in Ghana and the diaspora in collaboration with Yeguaa Foundation presented assorted items including food to the destitute infirmary at Bekwai Amoafo in the Ashanti Region.
The Bekwai Infirmary which was established in 1957 relies on the benevolence of individual philanthropists and institutions. Its mandate is to provide care for people who do not have their families to support them. In-mates are admitted from all the regions in Ghana. The infirmary becomes a permanent home for those whose relatives cannot be traced. In-mates have various disabilities ranging from moving difficulties to psychiatric issues. Funding from both local and central government is woefully inadequate and most times management has to seek assistance from the general public, churches and philanthropists.
The Edusei Foundation and Yeguaa Foundation are collaborating to assist these orphans reach their God given potential and overcome the disadvantages set forth by their mental and physical impediments. Given that Yeguaa Foundation primarily focuses on helping physically and mentally challenged women and youth, and that Edusei Foundation focuses on empowering underprivileged women and youth towards development, this collaboration perfectly reflects the synergistic relationship of both foundations and embodies their missions, which include providing aid to such special groups."
The Edusei Foundation is a family initiative formed by Dr. Kwame Bawuah Edusei , a US based medical practitioner, philanthropist and former diplomat who has committed his life as a private citizen to champion the cause of the underprivileged especially the youth and women in society
